you can just put the internals into it and get your self a prebuilt upper from one of the many dozen manufacturers and they have done all the hard barrel installing work for you.
I have an old EA lower...bought direct from them before the Clinton ban. The fit was initially very tight with the Del-Ton upper that I bought. However, it has worked flawlessly. And today (many thousands of rounds later), it's still tight but the takedown doesn't require a punch anymore.

If your lowers accept a removable magazine, it won't be CA compliant anyways. Unless you bought the lowers, and had them registered with the state pre-94 I believe was the year.

All current CA legal lowers have a plate welded over the mag-well, and I'm told that if you cut out the plate it will render the lower inoperable, as well as make it illegal.

It is legal to have a removable mag. Gripless build.
I am building mine using a monster man grip.

Check calguns.net for more info on gripless builds.
The cut off for reg`ed AW`s was Dec 31 1999.

I just got another Stag lower today. I have a secret source here in Monsoon Central.

I think I should build something now.

Ahh, I forgot about the gripless AR's. I wasn't trying to preach to ya (if it came off that way), just offering a word of caution.

Good god! if the gun ever totally failed, you'd always have a paddle with that grip. Is it comfy?

So how is a LEO to know if you are in possession in a registered AR or not, or would be more a case of the LEO spotting someone with an "evil gun" and approach an check out the gun anyways?

(sorry for the sidetrack guys) We need an AR room.

No prob.Yeah that grip is fugly. It`s not too comfortable.
If a LEO checks aw`s will come back as reg`d to owner.
I keep a copy of aw registration in all my aw cases
Just in case the local barney fife gives me any grief.
For oll most people print up some of the docs from
calguns to keep with them when shooting.

So if I understand this http://www.calguns.net/copmemo2.pdf correctly I would have to lose my 6 pos. stock, pistol grip, VFG, and 30 round mags and I could bring my Stag-15 A2 Model 2 Pre-Ban (http://www.stagarms.com/cart/images/..._model2big.gif)
into CA from Nevada exile? If so it's almost tempting, but NV is so close, it's a why bother type situation. Even Barney Fife would know mine is not CA legal in it's present configuration.
