I found this notice in the BushMaster Catalog 2007 V.2 page 19. A statement from BushMaster regarding Machinegun parts.
Just a small part of what is written. The position of the Bureau of Alcohol.Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) is that if your AR15 type rifle contains even one M16 component , it's a Machinegun. ===== As I have found many online AR parts vendors selling the heavy M16 type bolt carriers at the same price as the undercut lighter M15 bolt carriers. I wonder if people know about what the ATF regards their AR15? My thoughts are if this is a true fact and they the ATF have reason to ask to inspect your AR15 and finds the AR16 bolt carrier or any other AR16 parts inside, and you don't have the class III title for a M16 they would IMHO confiscate your rifle and send you into Federal Court. Just for having nothing more then the heavy bolt carrier or some of the other listed parts. Also notice the picture on page 19 of the other M15/ M16 parts and what they look like. I have no way on knowing if what BushMaster is posting in their catalog is fact of fiction I am just passing this Info. on for every AR15 owner to see and make up their own mind. |

Don't even worry about it......you can use standard AK parts except for the receiver and the trip to build a semi auto AK, if you don't use compliance parts...you can use every M16 part to build an AR15 as long as you don't use the 'go fast' trigger set up and receiver. My buddy has one that has a 4 position safety switch, and marked on his receiver for safe, single, burst, and full. Everything on his gun is surplus/parts from M16s except for the receiver and trigger group.

You have a ar-15. Use ar-15 parts! end of story. Why even risk it? Just to get a heavy bolt carrier? That is a real law by the way. I wouldn't listen to anyone that says its ok to stray from the law because his friend does it. It is still illegal. Any M-16 part is illegal on a ar-15 without a class III! This is why they want to ban the AR because of stuff like this!

Alright I did some digging and I guess I was informed! I found a letter from the ATF. To sum it up it states you can have any M-16 part you want as long as it is not capable of shooting full auto. So that good news! Heres the link for everyone to get INFORMED! http://www.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs/user/wb...f_letter52.txt
Thanks for making me dig mvician!

Funny how a big company like Bushy failed to quote the details like that. Oh, well, that's why there are resourceful users out there like the people here.
