No last I heard there is a company making a .50BMG upper that will mount on a regular lower.

Call Pete and ask, but I'd bet yes especially if you're going with the RRA upper and lower combo.

Holy cow batman... OK, first and I only say this because you honestly seem to want to learn, but Google is your friend.

Major railed forend manufacturers are (to name a few)

LaRue Tactical
Yankee Hill Machining Company (aka YHM)
MidWest Industries
Knights Armament
etc...etc...etc...

I know that at least the last three have free float systems that don't require the removal of the FSP (Front sight post - as if pulling those two little pins is a monumental task to begin with, but the flash suppressor can be a full on hag and that has to come off to get the FSP off completely..). I have 2 AR's with the MI FF 2 piece rails and while they are heavier than some, they lock up dead solid and I have no concerns about them twisting or shifting out of alignment.

Call Pete.. I think it might actually be free shipping, if not it had better be under $15 or so.. it isn't as if they are that heavy.

This speaks to where the gas tube is fed from on the barrel. Someone will have the exact specs, but the gist is that the CAR is shorter and the Mid is longer. The on advantage to a Mid that I can think of right away is that because the Front Site Post (that's where the gas tube meets the barrel just in case you didn't know) is further down the barrel you have an extended sight radius.

Honestly, I can't tell the difference in actual function or performance. It does change a few things with optics sighting considering where the FSB is, but nothing I would call an issue or inhibitor. Midlengths have been a trendy kinda thing for a while (last couple of years at least).. I bought one because it was a good deal and don't have anything good or bad to say about it other than my railed forend cost a little bit more (+/-$15).

Two Piece Free floated handguard is a MI (Midwest Industries) MCTAR 20 handguard. They have a non-free floated version but for the extra $40 it was worth it for me to have it free floated:

Here is he non free floated version:

I haven't installed it yet but the MI has had very good reviews. It is especially nice since you just take off your existing carbine stock and put the two MI pieces together. You don't have to mess with taking off the front sight.

The FF version requires that you remove the Delta ring (gawd bless the dremel.. yes sir.. bless it indeed) and such. Not a big deal, just gotta take your time.

Here's a mighty fine explanation of why the mid is better for the AR than the carbine..
