The ones our troops get to play with....I believe so. The ones civilians can purchase I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think they are. There are still certain aspects that are said to be mil-spec on the the civilian available Colts. Two different animals though.....select-fire M4/M16 and the (semi-auto) AR-15 that's looks almost identical.

I believe what he means is that you won't find a civilian version that fully meets the milspec due to burst & full auto capabilities on the milspec versions.

The MILITARY models are "milspec"

parts of the commercial AR may be "milspec", but the complete rifle is not.

This MilSpec thing is way over stated and nitpicked.... the MilSpec standard that we as civilians are worried about are parts interchangeability and fit. If there is going to be a nitpicky comment about an AR not being MilSpec and the reason is because it isn't Burst/Auto ... then don't even make the petty friggen " I need to act like I know something" comment. Yeah I'm tired of these "not MilSpec" comments!

Otherwise, I would ask that you specifically state what is out of spec, reference the Spec Sheets for both the Item you're contesting and the MilSpec sheets.

................... In the mean time.. Yeah the Piston uppers are the Shiznit

anyone need a slightly used soap box?

Thumbs up What really counts to this shooter

I really could care less anymore what our military calls MilSpec. Years ago it ment something today it's more about who will make the parts the cheapest.

What counts to me is what Companies like Lewis Machine and Tool LMT say a part should be.

Easy there....don't take my head off I was merely responding to the previous question in regards to whether or not COLT AR's (specifically) were "Mil-spec". My first comment earlier in the thread was in reference to the link to the carbine shown in the OP. All I said was that the seller was misleading potential buyers with the term "Mil-spec". I don't "need to act like I know something".... no arrogance here, and I don't think my response had a "know-it-all" tone. I have 2 AR's, a RRA and a build. I don't pretend to know everything. No complacency here either, I'm always learning and very receptive when being corrected. I just thought I'd add my 2 cents on the topic. I love my AR's and could care less whether or not they are considered "Mil-spec", or "Tier 1,2,3,4", etc. etc. Oh, and I agree with you...there is too much attention paid to the subject. Peace my XD brother...it's okay!

Sorry man... bitchy day at the office and this is quickly becoming a pet peeve. The MILSPEC standard is a set of tolerances, configurations and guidances for everything the military has built or does. Military Specification... yada yada yada.

Guess my gripe goes much further back than your post and I am sorry for ripping into you. It really is that the deviations from the Actual Specification document/reg is nominal in civilian weapons that are all but MILSPEC in the actual production/fabrication of the parts. The deviations for the actual military specification vs. civilian production are realistically in the opposite direction that most people think. The weapons that we get that are for the most part MILSPEC generally exceed that specification in other area's. Sure they deviations to standards below the spec. but they are generally from the lower end manufacturers.

One great example of this is RRA. I'd take any of my 3 RRA's into combat in a heart beat. 2 of them deviate from MILSPEC in a couple of places, for my purposes it was the buffer tube size. That's cool with me, I knew what I had.. some folks don't.

Take Colt as another evil example... some have piviot pin holes that are sub MILSPEC in their civilian models.

Petey.. I'm sorry bud. I appreciate your candor and calling me on being an ass. Come on by Denver some day and the Beer is one me... supply your own ammo though
