Quality of ARs

So my Stag finally came in. I went to look at it but didnt pick it up yet. I'm wondering though, both the Bushmaster M4A3 and the Stag model 1 look almost like toys. The handguard on the Stag had some play and look and felt like a hard plastic. The barrels on both look fakish. Anyone else think that? The rifle felt good though. A few qualms I have though is the aperture was a little smaller than the Bushy and it only comes with a 5 round mag due to being either a post-ban or NJ friendly model. I dont think its a bad buy at $850 though.

I can't speak to the Stag however, I own several Bushmaster carbines and a couple of Colts. I have found the Bushmaster, at least the ones I have, to be excellent rifles. Fit and finish are good and reliability has been flawless and they are accurate.

Keep in mind, ARs are tools not collector pieces and the only thing that counts is how well they function and shoot. I have no complaints with my individual Bushmasters.

But do you think, or is certain parts plastic or plastic looking? I mean as long as its accurate and reliable thats all I care about.

Nah, not me. Actually the tactical Stag with the quad rails look a little nicer. The material was a little shinener almost.

build your own. its cheaper and it saves you money in the long run if you build the way you want to start with.

I would think the peep would all be standard sizes, but I guess anything is possible. You could change it out easily enough or just flip it to the larger opening. If you can live with it, the smaller aperture means tighter groups.

Have fun! shoot safe.

handguards aren't supposed to be metal...at least the AR's i've seen (and the one I own) are not.
the hand guard is also a heat shield for the barrel. if it was metal, you'd conduct a lot of heat into the handguards...not great for the shooter.

Stag is quality. Bushy is quality. RRA is quality. you can get premium quality if you wanna spend premium prices.
Think of stag/busy/RRA as good consumer quality. above that is the prosumer level (professional consumer level). below stag you have cheapy stuff...like Model1 sales. not to say cheapy = crappy...but you'll have a higher potential for out of spec parts.
