The second question, yes, you can shoot .223 Remington in a 5.56 NATO chambered gun. We do it all the time with out club's DPMS AR's.

.223 is usualy a tighter chaimber, and as a result you should NOT shoot 5.56 out of a .223. But It is generaly ok to shoot .223 out of a 5.56 gun.
Check out ammoracle.com (It might be ammooracle.com) for info on the round. |

It depends. With Chrome-lined, you will give up some accuracy. But what kind of rig are you buying / building? A CQB version - I'd go chrome-lined. Reason - longer barrel life and easier to clean. But a long-distance sniper-type rig, I'd go chrome-moly for better accuracy.
Yes, but not the other way around. You can shoot either .223 or 5.56 in a chamber for 5.56. But you should only shoot .223 in a .223 chamber. You should check out the ammo oracle, lots of good info http://www.ammo-oracle.com/ Last edited by jdavionic; 06-09-2007 at 04:53 PM. |

Gunman,
jdavionic is correct in regards to the chrome lined and 5.56 issues. I was just going through the most recent issue of Shotgun News and I saw an ad for Olympic arms M4gery going for something like $595... new weapon, with customer support and options to upgrade and customize. A lot of folks who have gotten the UTE 2 mount seem to ditch it in favor for a BUIS. Can't go wrong with RRA, but if you want more customization Olympic Arms and Del-Tons are worth looking at. http://www.olyarms.com/?rootView=browse&view=dtl&ids=PP http://www.del-ton.com/DPMS_16_A2_Rifle_p/rfl1010.htm Hope it helps instead of confuses Cheers,

I love that, but I'd go with a flat top and put your own rear sight on there. This will give you more options for optics and the like. I think RRA makes an A2 sight like that that mounts instead of being intigrated. I have a RRA tactical carry handle that has a piece of flat mount and essentially gives me that set up. Difference is it comes off when I need to mount a scope.
See...
