I'm certainly not an expert my any means (hence the reason for this thread), but DPMS has come to me highly recommended by several AR afficionados. Price really ain't bad considering how sexy they are and how many different configurations they offer them in. I'm in love with one of their 16" M4A3 types on their website, might not be the Panther, but something similar.

Hey folks, let me get some opinions on this rifle.

http://www.dpmsinc.com/firearms/5.56...4_carbine.aspx

It's basically got all the features I want... price is definitely do-able for me.

Anything and everything, let me have your opinions.

From what it sounds like, you probably already found what you are looking for. Just remember, the AR15 is like 1911... anything can be changed at a later date. BUT remember, too... like the 1911, they tend to multiply!!!

For what you are saying about the type of shooting you are going to be using it for, just go for looks. Both are plenty accurate for a new shooter. If you like the 16" tactical look, get that. If you like the longer more traditional look of the 20", get that. Somewhere on the net, I saw a AR15 clone of the Vietnam Era M16, too. Next on my "put money aside for..." list! Or I'll just build one if I can find the parts here in the Great White North.

I like both so got the .223 in 20" traditional A2 for 100 and 200m targets and ordered a 9mm 16" for indoor fun. .223 is kinda loud and expensive for the 25m and 50m indoor ranges.

Personally, I can't wait for my 9mm RRA to be built and shipped. That should be a blast! Can use it on any range, even the hadngun range, since it's a 9 and 9 is so cheap! Got a time machine, anyone? Can I go 12 weeks ahead in time, puhlease!!!

id like to recommend that you forget DPMS all together.

start looking for stag arms vendors.....order a complete lower half, and a complete upper half seperately.

This way, you get all of the quality of a RRA/bushmaster at the price of a DPMS.

aside from that, Stag arms uses a mil-spec dimension telestock tube....making stock upgrades simple.

Yo Unc, that DPMS AP4 looks to me to be a fine rifle.

medicstimpy, I am very interested in the 9mm platform. Keep us posted on your RRA 9mm. Did you order an upper only, or a complete rifle?

If you're going to look at buying on line you really have to look at and talk with AR15SALES.COM ... Pete is the guys name, best prices on the net, long time STAG and RRA seller, gets some killer deals.

If your just looking for fun and "the real deal" and money's not an issue, consider a .308 . I love my DPMS SASS, kinda expensive but it's like a piece of art to me. 308 is definitely more expensive, but 223 just cant compare to the power of a 308 for a recoil junkie (it's also fun to watch the faces of the other AR15 owners when I light it up).

A carbine is a firearm similar to, but generally shorter and less powerful than, a rifle. It can fire the same round as a rifle, but at a lower velocity (due to a shorter barrel length).

Will do. I don't mind waiting for guns to be in stock, paperwork, etc. but this particular one is making me impatient.

I went for a complete rifle. It's easier to change calibers at the range that way. .223's just swap the upper but I read somewhere .223 to 9mm requires swapping a couple more parts (ie, easier to do at home than at the range).
