There's a guy in our department that has one mounted behind his EoTec and really likes it. He has the spring loaded mount that locks it either up or to the side. He put it on another guy's AR with an aimpoint just to see what it would look like and said the field of view behind the EoTec was better.

I actually mounted with a Samson quick mount onto a Eotech 551. Since many folks have followed. I love that configuration. You can do a search here and find the post and you can also see the pictures in the gallery.

Oh yeah, the EOTech config is slick as snot. Now, a little birdy told me that EOTech is releasing another itteration (554?) that uses the CR123's like the 553 and will have their own 3x or 4x magnifier. I did get the shoot an AR configured with the same set up mentioned by demon and fell in love with it. I just can't justify another $500 (mag and mount) after dropping what I did for the EOTech.
AimPoint is too damn proud of their name right now for my blood. The whole rig will run more than several of the major name Short Dots (IOR, Leupy, NF) but if you're really into the reddot, AimPoint is still the more cost effective of the quality RD optics out there.

I can buy a whole gun for what an aimpoint costs. Two for what an ACOG costs. I cant justify it if im not going into battle. My red dot is for HD and range shooting.

Well yeah, you can always go snag the knock off AimPoint from L337Tactical.com for like $75 shipped. But you get what you pay for. I'm not hunting Haji but I'm not going to have the glass fail or not retain the zero when and if I do need it.
I wasted a lot of money buying knock-offs and the lower end stuff, well you get what you pay for and now I don't buy junk. I just save for a little bit, do my research and then get the best I can for what I can afford. I know I about cried when I discovered that the optics I bought for my .308 just weren't up to snuff and I had already spent $350 on just the glass. Then to turn around and find what I wanted was $1200.. $500 more than the rifle
Needless to say I didn't get what I wanted, but the glass on there now cost about as much as the rifle and as such I now how a long range rig that shoots better than I can.
AimPoint makes a good product, don't mistake that. Keep your eyes open and you'll find good deals if you're willing to take your time shopping for it. The 3xmag is a good piece of equipment and the current generation will be dropping in price about 30 days after the SHOT show. I just don't know if it's the set up I'd want, then again I'm officially a EOTech biggot now as well.

Those are crap indeed, i warn against those. No comparison to the real aimpoint. I just chucked one in the garbage a few months ago. Your right, its better to just save for the real deal.

I have the Aimpoint 3x Mag & an EOTech 552, that has been the best setup ever. I had it mounted on my AR before I sold it. I now have it mounted on my 18'' M1A Bush rifle, it has never let me down. I also use the 3x MAg on my M4 at work, but I do make a suggestion for what ever you put it on. Get a Quick Release Mount for it, a good place to get it is at GG&G, you don't always need 3x Mag.

Oh yeah Airdale, I gotchya on the quick release - in fact I have one already. I have a Bushnell Trophy red dot that I have taken out once and really love it, it was the only red dot availble when I picked out the carbine and so I picked it up. I don't want an acog nor a M68 (cost to much, if it was free sure! lol). Wonder if that 3x would work with that one? How much trouble do you think it would be to mount them? Does it bother you alot to have your red dot mounted that far forward on the rails?

mounting the red dot foward isn't an issue, it's called "Scout Foward".. you'll see that configuration on a lot of AK's because the plate over the reciever area (if a rail or mount point is on the plate) is not stable enough to ensure a constant zero with any optic. I have a red dot mounted on my Bushy XM15 in this configuration because otherwise I'd have to have the optic on the carry handle and dat's a pain.
other options include foward canted mounts, this is usually seen in conjunction with large BUIS's and the magnifiers.
