True on anticipating, but this issue has always been a roller coaster. You also have to take finances into consideration.

Yup! I purchased 2 AR's and 2 AK's within the past year and a half. Stockpiled a bunch of ammo also.

Sportsman's Warehouse just got their post holiday restocking inventory and it was a shark fest fustercluck here yesterday.. lines around the building. They reported they have another shipment coming so the line was partly for getting your name on the list for the next batch. If you got one of these stores, they have inventory popping up.

I have my share of AR's I missed the chance to buy an AK before the bubble hit...now I am just waiting for the bubble to pop so I can get an AK.
I have plenty of ammo but I always want more...I am glad that it is not Cabellas and it is just the suppliers/manufactures.

It's more likely that they're not taking orders because of the length of back order. The obvious problem is if a person backorders the firearm and waits six months without being charged for the firearm he may find another in that time and cancel the order. If legislation is passed Cabelas may end up with a lot of inventory of firearms they cannot sell.
That and most people don't want to wait 6 months for an AR, and fewer still want to pay in full to wait 6 months for an AR just to have one grandfathered in case of a ban.

Haa Haa Haa....I love sitting back and watching the "late bloomers" bit(h and moan about the availability of things (guns, ammo, parts)!
Preparation should be done in times when the stuff is abundant not when the entire country is scrabbling for "something"! I started prepping 2 years ago and right now I have enough to keep me for years to come!
