Why get an AR-15?

Because I couldn't afford a Barrett 82A!

LOL.

I have to disagree.

While the shotgun does have its place in some roles. The AR15 can be configured in about 59 different calibers ( at last count ) and that my friend is what I'd call versatile.

There's a reason why the trend in Law enforcement is to replace the old stand-by 12 ga with the AR15 platform.

Understood.

Our opinion on versatile just differ, that's all. I enjoy bird hunting, trap shooting, etc. I can do those with a shotgun, but I could also load up slugs and perform rifle like functions as well.

Because the Air National Guard has found it better to do "just in time" training before deploying. What that has meant for me is, not having had to qualify with the platform since 2007! A day or two tops of training just prior to deploying isn't going to cut it in most cases, so this gives me the opportunity to stay more familiar. All that being said, I was pleasantly surprised at how easily I was able to field strip it with no thought at all, even after all those years of having not handled one. My comfort level with it otherwise was very low though, and took a number of trips to the range to regain.

Because it's my right and none of anyone else's business. On a more civil note, I use mine for varmint, target and home protection. The deadliest thing in the world is a Marine and his rifle.

No big deal if they do a semi automatic ban, I mean "assault rifle" ban. I've been wanting a M1A Socom anyways. All the goods just not the "evil" features.
