Legal AR-15 to M-16?
I got myself a Bushmaster M4 and I was wondering how to go about making it into a legal full auto rifle? Is it possible? Is it complicated? Worth it?

Only way to do it on a new gun is to buy a registered sear, and there aren't many of those out there. When you do find one, it's gonna be in the $8-10k range.

uhh super illegal. Like was said you need a registered existing part which would set you back major cash. Plus pass the background check and get the $200 tax stamp.

If the tax stamp is only $200 why is a legal DIAS, or fully assembled automatics for that matter, so damned expensive? I always assumed the tax stamp was the majority of the cost.

Our US government won't let you have a new full auto weapon. It has to be manufactured before 1982 or 1984 I believe and they're getting hard to find. Since you can't buy new parts, supply and demand has taken over. The price of the weapon, or parts to make it full auto, are the reason why most people can't convert one. If I could buy a brand new rifle and then buy a $200 part to make it full auto and then get the $200 stamp, you bet I'd have one. I, and most people, can't afford a $8000+ rifle by any means.

All select fire machine guns (for the general public) were stopped being made in May of 1986. All existing transferable weapons were made before 1986. now, if you are a Class 2 dealer, then yes you could legaly convert the weapon to select fire, but only for L/E use.
Other than that, you will get your self in alot of trouble if you decide to make it full auto. Don't do it.

Exactly. Full auto without the proper stamp/parts is a real big no-no. The ATF would have you living at "rehabitational facility" for quite some time.

www.tapco.com sells a semi, 3 burst, full auto, safe selector assembly for $200.
I believe you'd still need to change out the bolt and buffer springs
plus the legal paperwork and tax stamp.
its more of a 'hack job full auto', and I have no idea how reliable the thing is.
just tossing it out there cuz I've seen it.
