Idk if this is the right section -- (new purchase)

I went to check out an M&P 15 sport (out of stock) and an M&P 15-22...

I didn't want to spend more then $500 so I was set on the 15-22 , but I walked out with a .223 Saiga ..

I don't know much about saigas other then people convert them to AK's .. (??). I loved the looks , the fact it shoots 223/5.56 , and that it's brand new (my wasr was surplus).

I didn't expect to see a price tag of $499 on this either ! And , on top of that my guy at the LGS knocked it down for me to $450 !

I didn't think I could get a .223 semi auto for that price , so I'm happy right now ... I will admit I don't know much about this gun , but was told its solid (I didn't need anything fancy).

Here's a picture of her. Anyone have some good sources for reading about my specific saiga ? I'm getting a 30rd magazine tomorrow for it (done for the day) that they have.

All info good/bad is appreciated -- (PS: Excuse the ugly stock that was put on by the LGS lol , what options do I have for stocks ?)

( I was told 5.56 is okay -- I don't know the difference between .223 and 5.56. )

Hey man congrats! Big difference from a 15-22 LOL!

If the barrel is stamped 5.56 you can shoot .223. Not suppose to shoot 5.56 out of a .223 barrel unles it's a Wylde chamber.

Don't know a whole lot about the Saiga's but I kinda dig the stock myself. It's different & I like different.

Will it except std. AR mags?
I would guess not.

Lol Rich I know big difference --

I've done a little reading ... this is an AK lol. It's a Russian AK-74 variant ... it can be modified to take AR mags and apparently a lot of people convert them to full blown Russian AK's.

I've read mostly positive things --

I'm not worried about converting or anything like that -- it accepts 30rd mags and besides changing the stock out I think it's goinna stay the way it is ..

I googled the 5.56 question and all of the forum responses say "yes" (apparently its a frequent newb question) .. but it's marked .223 Remington ?

I really didn't think after 3 days of extensive online searching ... that their was anything .223/5.56 under $600. They had the Kel Tec PU 16 but this was recommended ..

The ammo I was given via recommendation is 5.56mm M855 "Penetrator" (green tips) ...

Still reading up on this guy -- !!!

When you going to shoot it?

I'm looking forward to a range report. Wondering if it's more accurate than say a std. AK.

I'm still digging the stock though!

And speaking of the stock I'm seeing that it's a "skeleton stock" and goes for $150 lol I'm keeping it -- it's quickly growing on me

Sweet rifle man. If it's as fun and reliable as their 12 gauges then I'm sure you will be happy with it. Don't mind the stock either.

Thanks I've done a ton of reading and am confused a little ...

I found the Surefire/SGM mag online for $20 less then the store and ordered it ... Now I'm hearing you can't use it unless you have 4 USA parts on the fed. list ...

The mag counts as 3 ... so now I'm trying to find out if this "upgraded stock" will count as 1 part ?

So I think I'm fine but tying to find the bottom line ..
