Charging handles get beat up and scratched don't worry about it. It wont need to be changed out unless it breaks.

You didn't shoot it with out locking the charging handle forward did you?

Ive never shot it like that before, I have left it back before when letting the bolt fly forward when dry firing, should I not do this??

I doubt it will hurt anything to bad but don't do it. Every time you lock the bolt to the rear push the charging handle back in its locked forward position.

Dude its a teeny nick

Why do people freak out over teeny scratches and stuff?

My service M-16A2 in the Marines had almost ALL its finished wore off (was grey not black) and dings all over, handguards had a hairline crack in it...yet on the KD range I would always shoot expert.

Heck my carry 1991A1 almost has NO MORE FINISH on it, yet I can still cut a fuzzy hole at 15+ yards with it, and it has NEVER failed to go bang in the more than likely 3000-4000 round count range.

Heck my work commute vehicles (35 miles one way) paint is almost all faded, the running light covers are missing, the driver side door has delaminated at the bottom, I don't have a radio, windshield is cracked...and it looks like a warmed over beater from the 80's, 172K+ miles on it last time I checked...yet it still gets me too and from work at 30+ mpg...and being a beater from the 80's is a survival trait in Houston.

I guess I am just not as picky on the finishes of the stuff I have...hmmmmm

I do recommend an extended charging handle though..it really does help alot with one handed charging of the weapon

Thanks, I wasnt concerned with the cosmetic part of my question. I wanted to make sure it this was fine and if it was ok to let the charging handle fly when pressing the bolt release. There have been several times I didnt push the latch back forward and it went flying with the bolt, now should I limit doing this? I def need the extended charging handle!!! Thanx!!

highly recommended to lock it back always..otherwise...guess what happens if its NOT locked in and you fire a round..it comes slamming BACK...right into your kisser (saw this in real life on the KD range in bootcamp...split o' boys lip right below his nose really good)

Charge the weapon...lock it back in its forward position...done
Normal cycle of operation, you should NEVER have to pull the charging handle again (manual cocking), unless the bolt closes on an empty chamber, unless it misfires..then its used to manually cock to clear the obstruction.
