PWS MK114 upper, since you already have the lower. I have the complete rifle in 5.56 and 7.62x39. They are long stroke piston driven systems, very similar to an AK piston, and I have nothing but great things to say about their work.

And you dont' have to worry about mag problems either.

You can get Ak's that are milled.

If you are thinking of suppression, the .300 blackout is the way to go bar none. Or so I read...constantly.

the 300 whisper is probably the better of the two. They can shoot from the exact same barrel.

Sorry, I was talking to the .223/5.56, 7.62x39, .300 blackout. Not all types in general.

Last year, I ignored a lot of advice from more experienced AR guys and built an AR 47. Like you, I wanted to have the best of both worlds: AR precision AND 7.62x39 punch, price and ammo availability... The short story is that it has been glitchy: Failure to fire, falilure to feed, multiple hammer springs etc. My local FFL/gunsmith says that I am asking the AR platform to do something that has already been perfected by Mr. Kalashnikov. So that's the bad news... The good news is that I (mostly) have the kinks worked out. I have a heavy hammer spring, and shoot premium 125gr (hot n heavy) rounds (FAILURES 100% WITH CHEAP STEEL AMMO). While this project has been pretty fun I'm really kind of embarrassed about trying to hybridize these two tried & true platforms against everyone's advice. If AR & AK were truly a match made in heaven, it probably would have been done long before me... If you really want a 'one-off' AR, go for the Grendel or the Blackout! This is all my opinion based on my experience and advice I have received. I know there are guys out there who have had success doing this and I'd like to hear from them!
