M&P 15-22 and CMMG 22 Questions

So I was originally looking at the M&P 15-22, but a SA handed me a CMMG dedicated complete 22lr rifle. I'm trying to find information on it, but I keep finding different things.

In the store, the CMMG flat-top was listed at $699, but online, I find them ranging from $480-699 and different names. I am not sure what the one in the store was, but online I find CMMG M4 LE and CMMG Quebec-A. Is there any differences between the two.

Also, is the lower on the CMMG a quality receiver, or would I be better off building my own from another lower and adding the complete 22 upper?

Any help would be appreciated, and thoughts between the CMMG and M&P are welcome.

If you want a .22lr which functions completely like a real AR, then get the 15-22. The AR Conversions are close but don't function exactly the same. The biggest complaint is that to pull a mag you have to pull back on the charging handle to remove the pressure on the magazine so you can pull it out.

Read some of the reviews on this site about the 15-22. There's also a good write up in Guns & Ammo about .22lr AR's. Here's the video review of the M&P.

I have the CMMG and the 15-22. Buy the 15-22. Most fun I have ever had with a gun.

CMMG, is a good weapon. But the MP 15 22 is an excellent rifle especially the command performance. I have shot both , bought the MP CF, it's my #1 target, plinking, squirrel, rats, prairie dogs, sparrow, pigeon, rifle. Shooting of the bench have holes in holes with the MP 22

I have been in the same debate, was looking at the CMMG because of the solid forged lower and upper, not polymer like the M&P. But don't know the difference in the Mags and shoot-ability. According to CMMG with the bolt adapter the mags have a last round hold open and should eject without pulling the bolt back.

Here's a good explaination. Difference between CMMG .22 Upper + AR-15 Lower or just a 15-22?

I think I would like the weight of the CMMG and being able to change more parts like a 556 AR because it's built on the same lower and upper. But the chances of doing this may be slim and the M&P 15-22 is a proven fun shooter.

Another vote for the S&W M&P 15-22. Reliable, and more fun than should legally be allowed.

One other thing about the S&W. It will always be a 22 whereas the CMMG is a AR action with a 22 upper. Couple hundred bucks to add a upper and your able to shoot 5.56. Think about it for a while

Edit-- stupid iPhone autocorrected what I wrote and it didn't make sense afterwords

I have the CMMG .22lr. I use the same lower for my 5.56/.223 upper.

You do NOT have to do anything other than hit the magazine release button to drop a mag and insert another. Maybe you have to with the .22lr conversion kits, but not with the dedicated upper.

I love my CMMG. I have never shot the 15-22, so I won't speak to the quality or differences. But I have no regrets about having the CMMG. Awesome gun!
