I've read a bit about the lenses and know about the differences in POA with the red dot vs irons, I was asking about physically getting them in a straight line on top of the rifle.
Good rings and a spacer is all ya need! :-p

On the one rifle I had with a Strikefire, the standard AR mount lined right up and provided an absolute co-witness.

Just ordered my stripped lower. Found a local guy that does transfers for 15$, instead of the 50 freakin dollars that both the LGS wanted.

I ran the numbers and here's what I came up with for totals:

Total cost OTD for a bushmaster,2 mags, and case from the LGS: $874.48

Total cost for my AR, built the way I want it, including 2 mags, a nice case, stock wrench, and a BUIS(package deal, so cheaper) = $767.05

Saved $107.43
So that part ended up as a good deal financially. I lose a factory warranty(although I'm not sure what PSA offers) but I get the knowledge/experience of building/maintaining the gun from the ground up.

With the $ I saved I bought:
1000rds of .223: $109.79
So by building myself I effectively got 1000rds free with the gun.

After that I added the following, which I would have purchased no matter where I got the AR:
Rail kit(x2) for hand gaurd.
Bipod(although this will be shared between the AR and my 10/22
Red dot optic w/ magnifier: Went with the Vortex Strikefire through PSA, would have ended up with something similar otherwise. Bought as a package deal with a BUIS, saving between 15$ and 35$ depending on where I bought a BUIS.

My original budget was 1100 for a store bought AR, not including ammo or other goodies, so now I can tell the girlfriend that I SAVED money by doing it this way :P

Once all the parts come in I'll post pics of the build.

.

With that price, I'm assuming you bought some brand of cheap Russian steel-cartridge ammo. I would have cautioned you to try some first in your new rifle before buying a large quantity, as many ARs, from both high and low quality companies, won't shoot steel case ammo. It varies from rifle to rifle, even among guns from the same manufacturers. You can search the net and find hundreds of posts saying my XXXXX AR won't shoot _____ (fill in the blank, Brown Bear, Wolf, Tula, etc) and replies from others saying "but my XXXXX shoots _____ fine! You must be doing something wrong."

Didn't even pick up on that...

Just bought ammo a few days ago... Ran me 120 dollars for 300 rounds of American Eagle brass.

Hard to find brass ammo for under .40 a round.

Sorry all, just looked over my posting/replies and realized that I accidentally doubled the round count for the .223. I normally buy ammo in 1k round increments, and I didn't make the distinction in my head.

Here's what I picked up from CTD.

AMM-2905 .223 Remington TulAmmo FMJ 55 Grain 500 Round Box 3241 FPS Steel Cased Polymer Coated Made In Russia 1 $109.79

I don't plan on reloading .223 so I didn't go looking for brass.
