Ruger SR-556EThis is a discussion on Ruger SR-556E within the AR Talk forums, part of the Long Gun Talk category; I've always wanted an AR, saw this one on sale and pulled the trigger.
Any suggestions for optics and backup sights?...

Well the Troy backup sights that the SR556 comes with have never failed me, many people will suggest Magpul; I have no experience w/ that but it is my understanding that Magpul sights are budget friendly. EOTech sights work great, its what I run on mine!

I run magpul sights. They are polymer and are easy on the budget. My rifle is just a shooter but if I was building a fighting rifle I would go with Troy or something similar. I couldn't justify the price though on mine. I also run a primary arms micro red dot. I really enjoy it and it holds up fine for a game gun.

@ghost--scout Right away I found the Troy sights with tritium lamps, do want, but I'll probably buy Magpul for now so I can start shooting next week.
I've always liked the Trijicon optics, had no idea they were so expensive. I might just shoot iron sights as a motivation to save.

Picked up a set of Troy battlesights on eBay. Made an offer below the seller's price and accepted the counter offer.
That will get it into a shootable configuration.

I miss the ACOG I had on my M4 when I was in. It'd be nice if they made a 4x32 BAC without a BDC and w/ the LAPD reticle, or something very similar, because I really miss the utility of the ACOG and the fiber optic/tritium light combination.
