S&W M&P 15 Sport, new owner
Hi all,
I just picked up the M&P 15 Sport yesterday at my local gun show. Hoping to get to the range today to try it out. This AR-15 market is filled with so many types and variations. This seemed like a good way to step into it without breaking the bank.
Wonder is anyone here has one and can offer any tips or things to be aware of for this model. My long range plan is to get involved with 3-gun shooting and thought this would be a better choice than my mini-14.
This is my first post on this forum. I am usually a regular on the XDm board.
Thanks

Couple of good reports on it here..... Smith & Wesson Long Guns
Specific S&W AR advice and commentary there also.

Congrats! I have had mine for a few months now and have put 500 or so rounds through it with no issues whatsoever. I initially set sights at the 50yd targets at my local range then tightened up groups at the 100. Lay sights on the 400 yard chest plate and it hits every time. You have a good weapon in the S&W M&P 15 Sport. I also have a 1988 Mini-14 that I put a scope on....she won't miss either unless it's my fault. The only thing I have done is to buy a M16 cleaning kit to use. Easy to clean with no issues...hate to see some sites speak ill of this rifle cause it just aint so.

What it seems you get with S&W is quality control. The best specs in the world, thrown together by amateurs won't equal a properly assmbled and engineered product.
Like all the S&W products I have owned, fit and finish are excellent and function is flawless. Yep, there are some top tier makers that probably are as good or (materially) better but few can top the QC of these guns.

I have had my sport for a while now, i love the gun and i can still hit a target at 100yd with iron sights, have not gone over to the 200yd range yet but plan to shortly. I have well over 1000 rounds down range and cannt complain about anything. i keep it well cleaned, looks like it just came out of the box. The only thing i miss on the sport is the dust cover but thats small. Just don't shot steel casing with it - just to dang dirty!!!

Perhaps a Burris PEPR mount, which is specifically designed for ARs. This one is holding a Millet DMS-1 optic, 1-4x24mm.

Nice rifle. Nothing unique about the S&W. Treat it like any other AR. Keep the bolt and carrier well-lubed. (I use Mobil 1.)
