Colt AR Match HBAR question

Just picked up a used Colt Match HBAR rifle. The lower says 223. But the barrel markings between the front sight and the brake are: C MP 5.56 NATO 1/7 HBAR. I understand the C is for Colt and MP is Mueller Brass.

So my question is: Do I have a mismatched upper? Caliber goes by the barrel markings, right? Any idea what I've got?

The MP is for magnipartical tested.
5.56 is the chamber on the barrel,
for whatever reason Colt marks the civilian lowers
as .223

So this is normal. It is a match barrel and it's ok to run 5.56 Nato ammo through this puppy?

Absolutely. You may run either .223 or 5.56 through any barrel marked 5.56.

Hmmmmm. 5.56 marked on barrel. Hmmmmm. That's a toughie! Of course, you can use 5.56 ammo in a 5.56 barrel. You could mark "12 gauge Magnum" on the lower, and it wouldn't make any difference as to what you could fire through the barrel.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm good with the caliber designation.

But I'm still confused if this is the upper that originally came with this AR and if it's a match target barrel. Any more stabs at this?

Pics of the rollmark on the lower and of the complete rifle would help.

Or google Colt Match Target HBAR or Colt MT 6601 and compare pictures

After deep digging through Google, I believe the upper is stock correct. Here are some images of a very close serial# AR with identical markings.

Still confused though. Looks like the chambering is in 5.56 NATO. But wouldn't a Match Target gun be more accurate in 223? Unless you are specifically using 5.56? But why is the lower marked differently than the barrel? One of Colt's quirks?

Thanks Guys! I appeciate the help on this.
