Appleseed rifle
I have a few questions about the Appleseed program.
I didn't know just where to start this thread so I figured there are probably alot of ARs at an event and this forum had the most viewing it at the time. If it is misplaced I reckon someone will move it.
I've read where many ap'seed rifles have the AR/M1 type peepsights and slings and some with scopes. However, I don't read much about bipod. Would a bipod equipped 10/22 be acceptable at an ap'seed shoot?
Secondly, do they always have all shooters on the line at the same time? Do they sometimes have so many shooters that the have to split the shooting time? I would like to take my son to a shoot but we have only one gun properly equipped.
Thanks for your help.

I attended an Appleseed last month with my daughter. Enjoyed the weekend of learning and shooting. VERY good setup and program!
The basis of Appleseed is to learn to be a rifleman able to shoot without external support for the rifle. The sling is used as the main support. The proper sling technique is taught and stressed.
No bipods were allowed. My daughter was allowed a makeshift support as she had trouble in prone to hold up the rifle for extended time.
Most of our group of 15 persons shot 22lr rifles. There were a mixture of AR's and hunting rifles. These non 22's were shot at various times such as qualifing and passing the various tests.
You may be able to borrow a loaner from the instructors. I brought my Marlin 39a and had difficulty hitting targets due to the manual cycle. Semi auto is the way to go! I was loaned a super 10-22 and my groups instantly improved. I am not much of a rifleman yet, but the semi auto was a big advantage.
Bring what rifle you have and have lot's of fun with your son! I highly recommend the program and the concepts taught.
We are going again in August or September. I need to get to the range and practice. My high score was 177, well below "rifleman" caliber.

No bipods allowed. They'll teach you to use the sling so you'll want a GI style sling.
If it's like the event that I attended this summer, the vast majority of the rifles will be Ruger 10/22's with Tech-Sights. Some will have scopes.
I used open sights but my eyes just aren't what they used to be. If/When I go back I'll use a scope.
Everyone at the event I attended shot at the same time. They then have you chamber flag your rifle and everyone goes up to check targets at the same time.

I wish they would do one in my area but it just never seems to happen. Seems like it would be a good time, and I could use rifle instruction. I've only really had handgun instruction. Which is kinda weird to think about considering I own 3 rifles and only 1 handgun!

kick'em, here's a link to their schedule. I don't know how far you are from Ramseur, but I advise to go, if you can.

We're also having one at the Mid Carolina Rifle Club, in Gaston, SC in Nov. if thats closer. And yes, 22's and scopes are allowed.
As far as having only one rifle, some of the instructors may have spares, that people can use. If you belong to a club/ range, find one of the members who know more about it.
