Looking for a AR
I was at my local shop the other day and looking at the AR's
They had a Rock River that really felt good, I am new to them and looking for info. In Chicago suburbs it is not to cheep they were asking just under $1000 it had front grip rail system on it, removable upper grip with a rail, 5.52 he said you could shoot 223 without any modification also, is that correct? what should I be looking for or stay away from. It felt good in my hand, a friend who was with me said it was good, he is a retired army, got hurt on a jump so had to get out early. I was looking for a picture of it but cant find one with the options it had. Looks a lot like the CAR A4 but had the removable top handle and the R4 barrel. I see they make a 9mm version, can you convert back and forth or is that not a option.

If it is chambered for 5.56mm, you can shoot .223 or 5.56mm with no problems.
To convert from 5.56mm to 9mm, you would need a separate barrel, flash hider, bolt/carrier, magazines, magwell blocks, and possibly buffer. It's not exactly swappable. Most people would buy/build dedicated 9mm AR's. Most people that own Rock River Arms AR's like them - I have a friend that owns one and hasn't had any problems with it. Pretty respectable company.

You can build an AR for arount $750-$850 if you are patient and do some research. I did just this last week. Mine totaled $960. I think due to the extras I wanted on it. If you want to take a look at mine it can be found here........ My first build done!!!!!!

I suggest ordering online and having it shipped to your local FFL. For 1000 bucks you can order a much better rifle than a RRA online.
You can buy the upper and lower from BCM for about 1000 depending on options. The Daniel Defense XV is priced right around 1000 and right now has a 250 gift card attached to it that you can use to buy a rail system. I have heard of some Colt 6920's being found around the 1000-1100 price range lately.

The problem I found with ordering was mainly with the upper. No one had any in stock and when I asked about the shipping time the answers I got were usually 12-18 weeks. A local gunshop told me that some of the manufactuers take the order and then cancel it later. Then when you call to inquire they offer to replace the order but the price goes up. I found a local shop that had quit a bit of uppers and pucked it there. I am not a patient person.

I have an RRA Elite Comp and it has been a superb shooter. Never had a single issue. Have you looked at RRA's site to determine what rifle model it is?
