My turn for a newbie question

Ok, I purchased that rock river a few weeks ago with the half quad rail,

Well my question is how the hell do I get this half quad off. I removed the gas block, but I am completely stumped as to what I need to do next. I think I may need a special tool? Any help would be appreciated as I have googled, youtubed and searched, but have not come up with a complete step by step of how to remove a free float.

thanks in advance!

A lot of FF tubes connect that way. Have you asked RRA?

So a week later I received this response,

Quote:
THE HALFQUAD IS NOT MEANT TO BE REMOVED SINCE IT IS THE NEW BARREL NUT WHICH WOULD REQUIRE A GUNSMITH TO REMOVE IT.

THANK YOU,

So next question, where do I go from here? I would like to get a DD omega rail or one of the new Midwest Industries one. Say I go to a gunsmith and have it removed, Do the new handguards have barrelnuts included with them?

thanks!

some aftermarket tubes like the dd lite come with their own nut. Others like the dd omega require the use of a standard carbine bbl nut. So you need to find which tube you are going with. If you end up needing a standard nut let me know. I have a box of them. Well, I just moved so that box is in another box somewhere but I'm sure I can find it.

You should be able to remove the gas tube and then unscrew you handguard. It appears that it is like an free floating one. Once you unscrew the handguard your replacement should just screw back on if is also free floating. Put the gas tube back and then the front gas block.

I'm pretty sure YHM makes those for RRA. Here is a link to the install/removal instructions.

http://yankeehillmachine.com/store/media/Forearms.pdf

Take a look at them and see if that is what you are dealing with. If it's not that one then look at their FF rail install PDF.

The reply you received from RRA and your photo suggests the rail and barrel nut are a one piece unit. After you get the quad rail off you will need a barrel nut and delta ring assembly for a DD Omega. For the MI or Troy you will only need a standard barrel nut. Also, if you are going to get a longer rail you will probably need a low profile GB.

Good luck, looks like fun!

What is it about the rail the Rock River comes with that you don't like / why do you want to replace it with another?
