All around I would highly recommend the EoTech or and Aimpoint. Don't care for ACOGS.
Actually the Eotech and Aimpoint are short range sights. If anything it would be easier to shoot the Eotech further out because the center dot covers less of the target. I prefer Aimpoints because of the battery life and dependability vs the Eotech. The Eotech does have a nicer reticle in my opinion. Acogs are a 50 yard to 600 yard sight. My newest build is going to have a TA33 Acog with a T1 Aimpoint in a off set mount. The best of both worlds in theory. We will see how it works. I will post pics when I have the optics in hand.

True, even with the magnifier it only really gets you midrange. But, on an AR or an AK, IMHO, midrange is about all you are going to need. For serious distance I agree that the ACOG is the way to go for a semi-auto like a DSA FAL or an M-14. I have an EOTECH for my AR with a magnifier. However, I am thinking of going with an Aimpoint on my AK for the fact that it has such a long battery life. The concept of the AK is to be rugged and require little maitenance. I think the Aimpoint, IMO, meets that goal.

The ultimate AR optic has not yet been built. I am hoping it will be coming out after the Shot Show. S&B is making a 1.1 to 8 power short dot. Lets just pray it has a Bullet drop compensator. I love the 1-4 and 1-6 power variables but they are missing a BDS except for the Elcan Spectar. My roomate has one of those. Nice optic.

I have an ML2 on my Saiga. I am waiting for the cheek raiser for the magpul to come in and then it will be compete.

Yeah, I specifically picked out the EOTECH wil the bullet drop compensated dots for the 5.56. Once dialed in, and all things being equal, and you know your distance, it should be a matter of putting the appropriate dot on your target. Not quite a Shepherd Scope with an integral range finder, but the idea is solid.

So an ACOG won't work on any of the other countless variants of the FAL? Just the DSA models?
