I recently bought a new Aimpoint Comp ML3 from TJ and couldn't be happier. You can't really compare the Eotech/Aimpoints with an ACOG since they are intended for two different things, but you can always throw a magnifer behind the Aimpoint or Eotech if you want to shoot at longer distances. Instead of shelling out a lot of money for an Aimpoint magnifer, LaRue offers the "Po Boy" magnifer with a LaRue flip to side mount for $195.

I love the ACOG's...likely my favorite optics for my M4/DM rifles, BUT the price is pretty terrible when you compare them to the EOTech and Aimpoint sights and realize the huge amount of money you'll save on the Aimpoint versus the ACOG that you can then use the savings for buying more ammo, more mags, etc.
I love the Aimpoint sights...just not as much as the ACOG. For your stated purpose of putting rounds on targets out to 200 yards...absolutely not a problem for the Aimpoint. Just remember, you are losing the ability to have a fine reticle or other optical cue for putting rounds on the target. Instead of a crosshair or similar precise point of aim, you are going to have a 2MOA dot which will completely cover roughly a 10" circle at 200 yards. It won't be AS accurate as perhaps an ACOG or other optical sight, but you should be able to put rounds on target without any problem.

If you can see it, you can hit it. Know the ballistics of your rifle/round and hold over the appropriate amount.

A 2 moa dot will cover roughly a 4" circle at 200 yards
1 moa = about 1" @ 100 yards

Any of these are quality options. If you want something magnified, you'll spend less money on an Aimpoint with a LaRue Po' Boy magnifier behind it than you will on an ACOG. Don't get me wrong here, I'd love to have an ACOG but they do have limitations. As mvician said, if you want an ACOG, but it used to save some cash.

now your just being silly
For an AR pistol I suggest a Aimpoint ML3, a stock and a tax stamp while are cool they are impractical and pointless

Sorry to highjack this thread but I have a similar question. I was looking at the EOtech 557 with the 3x magnifier which is priced around $900. I didn't really care for the extra "bullet drop" dots in the circle, however everything else was really nice. I did some research on various AR sites and found that a lot of people don't like EOtechs which is making me rethink my choice. I have yet to try out an aimpoint and would like to before I spend the kind of money on one. The rifle is an LMT M4gery and I prefer lower 1/3 cowitness.
My question is would you rather go with:
1.)EOtech 557 with 3xmagnifier for $900
2.)Aimpoint Comp M4 2moa dot with the POboy magnifier for $930 and (possibly) upgrade to the aimpoint magnifier later.

Oh baby, I was on Trijicon's website for like an hour last night pouring over all the ACOG's. I want one soooo bad. The one with the Red Chevron sticks out the most to me. I wasn't happy with the Doctor sights they were selling with them, 8 MOA. So I googled Doctor Sight and found out they make one in 3, 4, 7, 8 MOA. I'm thinking 4 MOA would be good.
