Nugent as NRA president? That will set the pro-gun movement back years, if not decades.
He is exactly the wrong front-man to have if reaching the moderates in the middle is the goal. If scaring people who are already uncertain about the wisdom of concealed carry laws is the goal, then he'd be great!
Yes, many gun owners like what he says. I agree with most of it, but it's exactly the wrong way to present the message. The gun owners, and NRA members, are already on his side. The problem--and the solution--lies with those who aren't gun owners.
And Nugent is not the man to reach them.
Go ahead and flame away, but I like to win, and Nugent will make that result more unlikely.

Nah... On stage he is completely different than when he is doing interviews, etc.

I agree. I couldn't agree more. Uncle Ted is great at rallying the troops, but not good at recruiting.
Tom Selleck would be good, but I don't think he is out promoting gun rights like the Nuge is. And he can tone it down when he needs to.

Maybe we do need a 'kind, gentle' face, but at the same time I want someone who understands the following statement, and doesn't apologize for it:

On the other hand, I have no problem refering to a firearm as a "weapon" if that is its intended application. Too many people out there seem to have this notion that weapons are bad, and that if it's only meant to kill people then it must be evil and banned/regulated. Those people forget that some folks need killing and it's not always wrong.
