Grain for 1/7 twist barrel?

Are there recommended grains for a 1/7 twist barrel? Is this different for .223 vs. 5.56? Would grain be different for range vs. personal defense?

I assume you are talking about bullet weights? If so that twist barrel will pretty much stabilize any weight bullet you can get from the 70 some odd grain bullets all the way down to the 55s.

A 1/7 twist barrel will handle everything from 55 grain ball to 77 grain Sierra Match bullets from my experience. For self defense the best load going right now is Hornday 75 grain Tap.




Its also very accurate in a 1/7 twist barrel. I fired this group with my Colt with a Aimpoint and a magnifier at 100 yards.
