Need Ammo, is Wolf OK?

I have never shot Wolf 45ACP through my XD but I sure do like the price and I need some practice ammo. I know it's supposed to be the cheapest crap going but is there some reason I shouldn't use it?

Thanks in advance.

I use it for target practice. Very dirty and smelly but I've had no problems.

Wal-Mart has Winchester White Box, 115 gr. FMJ, 100 round value packs for about $20.00. That is still a good price for reliable target ammo.

With the Wolf, you'll spend whatever you save in ammo for extra cleaning supplies, as Wolf is known to be some dirty ammo.

WWB isn't exactly the cleanest ammo.

I use both, and can't tell any difference whatsoever in terms of cleanup after words.

None of my local gun stores have stocked Wolf in .45 ACP over the past 3 months, so I've settled for WWB...but when there's a gun show, I stock up on Wolf....when you can find it, it is quite a bit cheaper.

It really comes down to your gun. The steel cases don't roll quite as smoothly in the magazine, and some people have reported problems with it feeding. If your gun is one of those that eats it with no problem, I don't see any reason to avoid it.

I also shoot a lot of .223 wolf in my AR-15. Surprisingly, I get tighter groupings with it, then I do most top shelf brass cases ammo. I think it has something to do with less flex from the casing giving the projectile a straighter (more predictable) trajectory into the barrel...thus depending less on the twist of the barrel to straighten it out.

Again...if your gun fires it OK...and you are the type of person that cleans your gun after each trip to the range anyway...what's the harm?

I've heard people argue that steel cases are harder on your extractor than brass...but I haven't seen any proof of that...and even if it's true....the savings adds up to A LOT more than the cost of replacing an extractor a few hundred rounds earlier than expected.

It looks like walmart is still the cheapest. $30 for WWB 100count. That's .30 a round and Blazer Brass is basically .28 a round. I can't find Wolf ammo for cheaper than that.

Does anyone know of a better deal I'm looking to buy like 2000 rounds.

There's an article about Wolf ammo on Box O' Truth.

I would add though...if you are a reloader....the WWB brass is supposed to be pretty good...whereas you can't reload steel case stuff with traditional reloading equipment. So, being able to reload your brass might help offset the cost difference between the WWB and the Wolf. (I personally don't reload .45 ACP yet...but save all my brass shells anyway in case I decide to)

Ammunitiontogo...

FMJ Ammo : Ammunition To Go

They currently have .45ACP Wolf for $13.49 for 50 rounds (27 cents per round)...but if you are looking to buy in bulk...they have 1000 rounds for $263.95 which comes out to 26 cents per round.

Do you have a gun show coming to town anytime soon? Just last month I was able to get Wolf .45 ACP for only $11 for a box of 50 at a local gun show...and didn't have to pay any kind of shipping.
