Reloading ?

I have just gotten into reloading. Am currently reloading these calibers;
.223
30 carbine
.303
9mm
Of these calibers which ones do I need to crimp?
What about seating the bullet to far? I do not use Max Loads, somewhere in the middle. Lets say is 22.9 grains is 2700 fps and 25.9 is max at 3500 I would shoot 23.8+/- 3000 fps. Just an example.

Thank you in advance.

For sure you'll need to crimp the 30 carbine and the 9mm (straight walled cartridges). A crimp is needed to remove the "bell" created when expanding straight walled cases. With 223 and 303 it's debateable. Some say with semiautos crimping helps prevent bullet setback and feeding is more reliable. With tube magazines, setback can definately be an issue requiring crimping. So it'll partly depend on the firearm to be used for 223 and 303. For any bolt rifle or single shot (with bottleneck cartridges) that I load for, I never crimp. For 223 in my AR I crimp, in my T/C Encore 223 I don't.

Hope this helps.

Thank You

I will be shooting the .223 out of an AR. I will continue to crimp, the .303 is a bolt action rifle, no crimp for me then.

once again thank you.

You need to buy and read a good reloading manual.
Hard recoiling rifle rounds .303 you need to crimp, the 9mm crimp should be very light just enough to remove the bell. Straight walled, rimless auto loaders head space on the case mouth so you don't want to over crimp.

Crimp all the calibers that include a crimp die. 9mm you should crimp lightly, the .223 I would lightly crimp anything you are shooting rapid fire out of a mag. I have never crimped rounds in .223 that are loaded one at a time. No exerience with the others.
