25 boxes of the wrong slugs

So I ordered 25 boxes of Federal Premium Truball 12 gauge slugs....of the low recoil type, from Cabela's. They were on sale and with a 4 day shotgun class coming up at Front Sight, I wanted to keep my shoulder from getting too hammered.

The case of ammo arrived today.....and they are the regular 1600 FPS version, not the reduced recoil. I checked the paperwork and their web site....yep, I ordered the correct stuff (stock number verified). They pulled the wrong stock and shipped it.

I don't intend to go through the hassle of sending it back.....it just isn't worth the effort, IMO.

Edit: I have a case of 00 buckshot on back order with them....I hope they don't smurf that one too.

Those slugs are not bad through an autoloader. They are a bit more harsh through a pump, though. I have used them and they are quite accurate. I took a small buck with one at about 65 yards with open sights. They hit pretty hard and make a nice hole.

i have shot a few different types of slugs through my Franchi Raptor 712 and the kick wasnt that bad at all. the slugs seem to be pretty accurate too. many times i will fire three rounds as quick as i can to see how the grouping would look and i can keep them all within a 6-7 inch group. even three back-2-back doesnt hurt too bad however i wouldnt want to shoot like that all day. i guess it just depends on the gun your shooting.

I have a Benelli, Super Nova and a slightly modified Savage street sweeper. They are only a 2 3/4" shell but pushing the 1 oz. slug at 1600 FPS. It could be worse. It's just that over the 4 day course, I'll go through about 650 rounds of bird, buckshot, and slugs. I was just looking to make it a little easier.

The only use i personally have for 1600 fps velocity slugs is for deer and pig hunting-- And a whole case is not needed for that! [ouch my aching shoulder!]

I would start with a phone call to Cabela's. They have excellent customer service.

And if that doesn't work, write some emails notifying the chain of command of their ammo part number screw-up. It happens all the time in other industries; why should you [the OP] be the responsible party for having received the wrong item?

I did a little more digging on their web site.

While they list the two different slugs in their on-line catalog, their shopping cart shows the same Cabela's part number for both the regular and reduced power slug. That would be a technical oops....from what I see. While I ordered these via the phone, I'm sure the lady punching in the order had the same bad part number on her computer too.

I sent them an e-mail (yesterday evening) and explained to them that they are stocking two different Federal slugs under the same Cabela's part number. They state on their web site, in bold letters, that ammo can not be returned.

I'll report back when I get a response.

Shooting a case of those are going to be brutal. I would probably look into getting a P.A.S.T. recoil pad for your shoulder. It goes on you like a shoulder holster. I shot 10 of those Brenneke saboted slugs once and boy did that hurt. They were rated at 1675fps. You might see if the Glendale Cabelas has anything in stock that they could trade you for.

I'm interested in the reply you get from Cabelas on this since they have a "no returns" policy on ammo and their stock numbers are fudged.

I also see this as an opportunity for you to buy a Knoxx recoil reducing stock
