Does factory practice ammo help accuracy?

I own an XD45c and I'm trying to determine why my groups aren't as consistent as I'd like them to be.

So far I've read in other forums here that the stock trigger from the XD's might be an issue.

I was wondering if choice of ammo can also be a contributor. I mainly shoot re-loads when I practice live fire. Would shooting WWB or other factory/name brand ammo help consistency?

Thanks for the insights.

reloading would be an even bigger increase in ammo consistancy. Some of the high quality factory ammo can get pricey. My groups are fine even using winchestor white box from walmart. What are you not happy abouth with your groupings? Showing to the left or to low or something along those lines?

that's just it.

they are all over, not just low to the left (i'm right handed).

I can get 2 to 4 inch groups at 10 to 15 feet, but when I go up to about 20 to 25 feet, they start scattering around the 8 ring area of the silhouette

Sorry Lep, this is just you getting used to your XD. Just about any ammo, even cheap factory reloads, that will go bang will shoot into 2" @ 15'. Even @ 21', a good shooter can put crap ammo into 2" from an XD or other quality pistol. More dry fire time w/ the XD will smooth the trigger abit & get you used to it. MY Tac, w/ stock trigger, will shoot into 2" all day @ 50' w/ just about anything I feed it. With ammo it really likes, I can get 2" @ 75'. Start dry firing.

Thanks fredj338. I'll get to it. I've also printed some of those diagnostic targets I found in some of the forums here. Hopefully that'll help too.

Breathing is another issue. If you hold your breath for to long trying to get that "perfect" sight picture will cause poor grouping.

Another thing, Raise your ARMS up to your eyes to get your sight picture. Do NOT lower your head or tilt your head, or Bend your neck just to see your sights, RAISE your arms up to your eye level. This will Also cause poor grooping.

Stance is yet Another topic. Work on ALL of the above, along with Dry Firing, Breathing control, Grip on the Pistol, SQUEEZE the Trigger, Dont Pull it or jerk it.....

Remember, TFOOTG Trigger Finger Out Of Trigger Guard until Ready to Shoot.

Good luck. I hope this will help you some.

I can't believe that no one has suggested that you use a sandbag from 25 yards yet! That'll give you confidence in your gun and give you a good picture to work toward on your freestyle shooting. Pay particular attention to your "Post fire" picture. Look for that same picture in free style, after the gun falls back through the arc of the kick. That's called follow-through.

Except he is only shooting at 25 feet! To me, there is little gained by shooting of a rest @ 25feet, other than verifying the pistol is solid. Nope, these are correctable physical aspects of his shooting.
