Question for those who reload pistol calibers
Do you reload only a specific type/brand of brass or do you reload it all and not pay attention to the head stamp? I've been saving my .45 acp brass and have it kept separately by head stamp. Well, most of it. Anything I have more than 50 of is kept separately, the rest is in a Misc. container. I don't reload yet, but I'm saving up the brass for when I do and I'm wondering if sticking with one particular type of brass is recommended.

I don't pay attention to head stamp, other then to make sure it takes a large primer.

Don't worry about separating headstamps. Straight walled pistol calibers really aren't affected very much. You should keep cases that have the primer pockets crimped seperate because they will have to be chamfered before reloading.

I'm new to reloading, but if you are building an accuracy load, or loading hot (pushing the limit) ... Volume differences from brand to brand will matter. For moderate load plinking ... I agree with everyone else ... I won't matter.

Just looking to shoot either more for the same money or shoot the same amount and spend less on it. I'm not looking for match grade ammo in my pistol calibers.

This is true. If you are loading plinking ammo, I don't sort by headstamp. If you want to run the ragged edge, then small diff. in neck tension or internap volumn can be critical.

For the .380 and 9mm . I try to keep all the same headstamp. For the .41 Magnum I definitely keep the same headstamps together. Preferably the same Lot too. Case capacity differs (often significantly) between some brands which effects pressure. For moderate to light loads this is not a factor. My own opinion is that for near max. loads it can , so I don't take the chance . Particularly with the Magnums. I like my loads to be as good or better than factory loads too. So I don't mix headstamps as a general rule.

I reload 9mm, 45acp and 10mm. The head stamp doesn't make a difference. Collect them all and reload.

I make sure there are no heavy crimps on the primers and I make sure the brass looks OK. If there is any nickel plated stuff, the nickel plating is clean and even. For nickel plated brass if the plating is very uneven it may be due to over-expansion from a larger chamber like a subgun or a Glock.
