Cleaning of old bullets
I just bought about 300 hndy 150gn .270 's for 20 bucks with a RCBS powder tricker .. i couldnt pass up . my my question is all the copper on the bullets have turned that nasty very dark brown color . I dont have a problem using them that like .. i was just wondering if there is a way to shine them up like new again . This shop in houston "had" all there bullets from back in the day marked 10-12 dollars . those were the prices 8-10 yrs ago and he was gonna honor the old price tag if i took them all . well i walked out with about 700 bullets in 10mm ranging from 130gn xtp's to some 200gn xtp's .. and also about 400 of ..270's in in every brand and size i can think of and there were all in sealed boxes of 100 . .. well he got tried of counting all the boxes and said " aww **** just give me 50 bucks and you can have it all " i had the money out before he finished the sentence . sorry for the showing off but i have to ell soemone who know what i am talking about .. thanks again

I would not dunk the bullets in water. Some of this is going to get between the core and the jacket and will stay there. This will start corroding the bullet jacket from the inside.

Brasso! Liquid or wipes. Works miracles on old metal.

I clean jacketed bullets (about to run some to remove moly) by putting them in my tumbler with a little cc media and some solvent (I'm currently using Butch's.). I use a $1.00 collander from Dollar General for separating the bullets from the media. Works for me.
Follow-up: My bullets came out moly-free, nice and shiny. Will load them up over the weekend. Last edited by Mercmar : 06-27-2008 at 10:58 AM. |
