Hornady 45 ACP +P 200 GR JHP/XTP

I was wondering what the various opinions/experience is in the XDTALK family with this ammunition. Anyone use it? Have anything good/bad/indifferent to say about it?

I am asking from the standpoint of usefulness as a self defense/carry round.

I have shot a box of it and was quite happy with the performance and am considering carrying this instead of the Hydro-shoks I currently have as they leave the rotation. It seems to be more economical locally than the Speer God dots.

I actually like the std. vel. 200grXTP load. It penetrates like most 230gr but expansion is moderate. They make 850fps out of my short OM & 920fps from my XDTAC. Recoil is mild & accuracy is impressive.

I suggest the 230gr +P XTP Hornady load

230 grain Hornady +P XTP

Cartridge : .45ACP Hornady 230 grain +P XTP (part # 9096)

Firearm : Recoil-operated handgun with 5.0" barrel length

Calibration : All depths corrected (From 9.1cm @ 589 ft/sec)

Shot 1 - 12.7" penetration, 881 ft/sec impact velocity, 0.736" average diameter.

Shot 2 - 11.9" penetration (exited side of block), 873 ft/sec impact velocity, 0.722" average diameter.

Shot 3 - 12.4" penetration, 885 ft/sec impact velocity, 0.728" diameter.

Shot 4 - 12.7" penetration, 899 ft/sec impact velocity, 0.714" diameter.

Shot 5 - 13.1" penetration, 887 ft/sec impact velocity, 0.715" diameter.

not too much info on the 200gr XTP load out there

FWIW - Hornady TAP uses XTP bullets with a black nickle case coating

+1 my carry round, one of the best. Just get something you belive in and are comfortable with the performance of. there are many top rounds out there.
