.40 S&W Gold Dot difference

What is the difference between Ammunition To Go : 50rds - 40 S&W Speer LE Gold Dot 165gr. HP Ammo [53970] - $25.95 and Ammunition To Go : 20rds - 40 S&W Speer Gold Dot 165gr. HP Ammo - $22.49 ? And why the HUGE price difference?

I don't know. The way I read it is the 50 round box is Law Enforcement Grade and the 20 round isn't, although both are uni-cor constructed and 20 round says it is "pre-fluted to define the "fault" lines of expansion". Seems to me they are saying the 20 round box is a better round but I don't know if the LE Grade is also pre-fluted.

But I will tell you this. If I had a 40 S&W I would buy the LE Grade and I would buy as many as I could afford. You are getting 30 more rounds and it comes out to less than 12 cents each for the additional rounds. I really don't think there is that much of a difference in the rounds and I think both would be more than adequate for a defensive round. The only other thing I can think of is the 50 round boxes say they are sealed in 1,000 rd. cases and that may be a case price. The 20 round boxes may just be sold by the box where you don't have to buy in quanity.

Here is my post on a other forum asking pretty much the same except it is Federal ammo. I do not have the new Federal price list so I replied back using what I had.

Horribly ripped off - Page 2 - Glock Talk

The confusion on the 20 or 25 round box and 50 round box is easy to see. The 50 round boxes are meant to be for government sales only.

Because of the mfg restriction most shops that sell Federal ammo can not buy it. Many do not even know HST exists because it is not in their catalog.

I do not have a current dealer price list from Federal so I will look up Winchester Supreme SXT and golden Saber 45 ammo as examples.

I just checked my Distributors prices as of today. Their price plus my minimum mark up to keep my business running. Remember I'm not ripping anyone off or making a large profit.

20 rounds 45 SXT 22.88
25 rounds of 45 Golden Saber 28.90

On the flip side I can sale a 50 round box of Ranger 45 T-Series for 26.95

This gives you the idea why the 20 or 25 round boxes are so high. They cost your dealer more to buy.

The LE ammo is a great deal. Generally, LE ammo is hotter.

I bought the 50 round box, then saw the 20 rounder which was about the same price. I thought it was better ammo or something. I did read into the idea that they were getting a much better price for buying bulk 50 round boxes. I was able to buy a single box at that price though so I'm pretty sure I got a good deal. Now all I have to do is get a gun CHAMBERED in .40, as I don't currently have one haha.
