What ammo and how many rounds do you keep at all times?

I have a CCP in Montana and travel extensively throughout 4 states, what I would like to know is what ammo do you keep in the mag at all times (I shoot a XD45 3" service) and how many do you keep in it keeping in mind spring tension lifespan... I currently keep 5 185grn hydra-shoks in my 45, thanks in advance...

Oh yeah can i see some pics of weapon mounted lights and how you like em and how you carry them as well...

i wouldnt worry about the spring in your mags going bad from being fully loaded.. springs dont wear out because they have pressure on them, they wear out with movement.. so the mags being completely full should not have any effect... i personally have my 45 Tactical loaded with 13+1 rounds of speer gold dot 200 gr +P

XD-45 Tactical with Insight M3 tactical light. very well built.. very bright... i dont carry this pistol but it protects my house at night.

I really don't think that spring tension lifespan is something to be too terribly concerned about, unless of course you keep a magazine loaded to full capacity for years without unloading. (My girlfriend has a .22 Berretta bobcat that has been fully loaded for several years without being touched and the magazine is still in perfect shape) I carry a XD9sc, and keep my magazines loaded to full capacity at all times. I don't think the incredibly low risk of tension loss is worth decreasing my magazine capacity to less than full. Go to the range 1-2 times a month and you won't have much to worry about, except affording that .45acp ammo.

To answer the rest of your questions, I carry Remington Golden Saber +P with 10 rds in the magazine and one in the chamber and occassionaly a spare 10rd magazine if I am able to carry it easily.

sorry its a 4" bbl... you brought up a question, this is my bedside gun-should I be looking at +p ammo even though im in motels alot (alot!). the only time I dont carry it or keep it in reach is when we have drill once a month so I do get a lot of carry time with it. I just worry about over penetration.... you would think i would know more about a CCW but this is actually my first one and my ARs are not an option. thanks

frangible if your worried about over-penetration... devastating to tissue, yet less than lethal from the other room/downstairs/upstairs/accros the street/through the drivers door ect....

cor-bon 200g +p for .45 defense.

Working/teaching mechanical design, and having discussed this at length with engineers, both here and in the real world ... Load the magazine to capacity and don't worry about the hype some place upon spring fatigue.
It's a false rumor.

Springs do not wear out while in compression or tension if the design parameters are not exceeded. A magazine spring is chosen for a particular design application. Loading it to capacity and leaving it that way for years will have no negligible effect on the spring if the design was correct to begin with.

Continuous cycling on the other-hand will eventually cause fatigue.

As for what I keep in mine ... Different caliber ... I do not own a 45 ... But I do like the performance of PMC JHP 85g in my XD9, while my Kel-Tec 380 always carries CORBON DPX. Everything else is a toy or not a carry weapon.

This is a few years old, but will give you an idea of what various bullets are capable of doing. Look for a balance between penetration and expansion, and keep in mind with your shorter barrel a +p type of ammo is probably going to be a requirement to get adequate performance.
