Yeah, kinda figured the car would win.

The reason for the question was because wasn't there a police shooting in LA a few months ago where this person drove their car at police officers who were attempting to stop them. Nearly all 4 or 5 of the officers emptied their magazines shooting at the car. They said they were trying to disable the oncoming vehicle. The driver was killed. So was there any logic in trying to shoot out the car then????

I figure you deserve to be shot if you try to run over a cop. But some people in LA are complaining about excessive police force. Can anyone from Arnold-land confirm???

If I am standing in the open, and I KNOW someone is trying to run me over with a 3000-4000 pound moving object, then I have just a few choices, being:
1.) stand there and get run over outcome- OUCH
2.) run away outcome-die tired (ha, tired)
3.) try to jump up on the car(as seen on tv) outcome-become a hood
ornament
4.)lash out in a fit of anger and shoot at the car / driver BEFORE getting run over. outcome-possibly save
some lives by taking one life

What do the "upset" people think, That as the vehicle is barreling towards the police, the police are going to hold a conference to determine what to do and who gets to shoot at the car, provided that the group of police have determined that a bullet(s) are going to prevent the car from running them over, of course that would have to get cleared with the legal team as well.

people are stupid.

Sure they were not "shooting at the vehicle" or "shooting at the windshield" trying to hit the driver? Even if you hit the car with a .50BMG, your not going to stop the cars momentum. An object in motion continues in motion until acted upon by a force to stop it. (or something like that).

Maybe they were trying to shoot the tires out too in order to change the cars path of travel.

An object in motion stays in motion until a force acts upon it.
An object at rest stays at rest until a forcce acts upon it.
A .40S&W is not enough force to stop a car.
A brick wall will do it

From what I remember about the incedent, the driver of the vehicle had led police on a high speed chase. The police finnally cut off and surrounded the vehicle in a residential neighborhood. The bad guy decided to try to run over cops and ram their vehicles blocking his escape. Police opend fire. The bad guy did not die.

The outrage was not really for this poor bad guy although that was a small part of it. The outrage was because only a few rounds actually HIT the bad guy and the rest of them hit houses and apartment buildings (probably due to deflection or because cops were shooting at a moving target that was trying to run them down). The media reported that cops were "shooting at the vehicle", but in fact the officers were shooting at the "suspect".

The infamous 88mm gun the Germans used in WWII for just about everything was pretty good at destroying tanks, etc. I guess you dould call that a stop.

A guy I shoot Tuesday night league with is a Sherriff Deputy and said they did some live fire training the other day and fired a whopping 18 rounds, now isnt THAT scary! Cope should do WAY more live fire training IMO. I know some departments probably do alot but others are WAY behind.

Welcome to modern Law enforcement. Unfortunately there are a bunch of people out there that scream excessive force at the drop of a hat , that in turn has made the Police administrators nervous so they come down on the training Sargents who come down on the Patrol Officers. Most new cops today hesitate when in a life threatening situation. Not because they are bad Officers but because of the threat of being sued or imprisoned for making a split second decision. The same thing is going on in Iraq, Soldiers being put on trial for battlefield decisions. I keep hoping reality is going to come back into focus but I cant see it hapening.
