wolff ammo?
i found a website selling 450 rounds for 149 including shipping. is this stuff any good? i was just gonna use it for target practice and it seems a lot better than buying it by the 100 at walmart (32.99 per box!) i'm not really familiar with the rules about posting online store links, so pm me for the link if you want it.

Wolf works fine. So far I've only heard unsubstantiated stories about how it breaks extractors, scratches chambers, explodes firearms, etc. but have never seen it. However, I can say that in 7.62x39 variety I have had several failure to fires. Don't know why, bad primers? I've only seen this w/ x39 though. I've also seen some pistol rounds that were a bit over OAL specs and thus would bind in magazines of certain guns and not others.
One downfall is that it generally is messy stuff. As far as carbon build-up, I think WWB is actually worse, but WOLF leaves red flaky stuff all over your gun and lots of white-ish salt like residue. The red stuff gets all over too, you'll have it on your arms after shooting it probably. |

If you don't mind cleaning your gun the ammo's fine. I regularly shoot Wolf 9mm out of my XD and except for the extra grime from the ammo it's not remarkably different from brass cased ammo.

I've personally seen one KB caused by Wolf. Heard many more. I woudn't use it unless it was considerably less expensive then everything else. I don't feel like having my XD blown through my hands.

I have no problems with it. Some indoor ranges do not allow it because it is smokier (read, they want you to buy their ammo).

I to have no problem with Wolf polymer coated ammo. I also agree that WWB is messier then Wolf. I have never seen any red coating and the only white chunks of residue I ever seen was from WWB. I have put a couple thousand rounds through my G19.

Wolf ammo
One of the indoor ranges I shoot at will not allow Wolf ammo. When I asked why, the owner brought out a photo album in which he showed me 3 or 4 pictures of firearms that blew up on their range, according to him while using Wolf ammo. If I remember correctly (this was 3-4 years ago), one was a glock, one was an AK, and I can't remember the last but it was another long gun. I don't know if its BS or not, but I don't think it's to make people buy ammo from him, as he will let you use anything else you bring. I don't know if I'd be breaking a forum rule or violating some unspoken ethics rule by naming his shop here, so if you would like to call and talk to him yourself, you can PM me.

+1. Mine will not allow it either. I asked why and the response was "Too dangerous." I bring Wally ammo in all the time and no problem with that. I am sure it is not allowed just to sell ammo.

One more thing.. Wolf ammo is steel cased and therefore is not able to be reloaded. The ranges around here are notorious for sweeping up the casings so you can never collect your brass (so they can sell it as once shot brass). They can't resell the wolf casings and have to fish through their collected brass to clear them out.
