Help identify this round
A friend gave these .38 special personal defense shells. I remember reading about them back in the late early 80's but I can't remember the name. They are a plastic shotshell filed with 3 lead buck shot pellets.

Can't really tell you what you have but they look similar to the CCI shotshells. Only difference is the CCI shotshells have a cylinder type shape and are not rounded by the tip like yours. I wouldn't use the CCI's for personal defense unless it was against a rattlesnake or a rabid chipmunk.
They may be more in line with the Glaser Safety Slug but the ones I am seeing have a blue shotshell capsule on top of a hollow point. Unless they were an earlier prototype or something. Oh well......................... |

I believe they were called "triple shocks" . I remember a couple loads in a similar genre. One had a hollowpoint with two short wadcutters underneath kind of like one long projectile that separated after firing. I believe they fall into the "mall ninja" catagory. Just buy some good hollowpoints and save the trick ammo as a curiosity to show people .

Sounds more like this than the triple shock which was actually a bullet.
"Strike Three" Strike Three Pistol .38 Special 10 Rds., Pistol Ammunition, Strike Three at Sportsman's Guide Strike ThreeŽ Home Security Pistol Ammo</I> delivers stop-'em-in-their-tracks knockdown power! Click image to enlarge... This Home Security Pistol Ammo delivers not one, not two, but THREE separate lead projectiles from each cartridge. Its three .30 cal. #1 buck shot pellets triple the stopping power and safe accuracy of your pistol! Each round delivers a maximum high "shock" effect and energy on impact, while minimizing over-penetration for safety. Average pattern is a 2" spread of the projectiles at 7 yards. Projectiles are encapsulated in plastic for easy loading and smooth feeding. |

Yea I think it's the strike three. I remember they where the big thing in the gun rags back then. Them allong with the BAT (Blitz Action Trama) ammo. I guess they equate to todays Extreme Shock and RBCD ammo. I'm going to store them right next to my silver bullets and my zombie apocalypse manual.
