Non-jacketed lead 9mm ammo

Does anybody make non-jacketed, soft point lead 9mm ammo? The reason I ask is because my clubs indoor range does not allow any jacketed ammo to be used. I have looked for just plain soft point 9mm ammo but nobody seems to make it. I do not currenlty have the space to reload so that is out. There is an indoor pistol league starting up in the fall that I really want to be involved in but I just cannot seem to find any ammo that would be ok to use in the indoor range. If I cannot find anything I may just have to buy a .22 rimfire pistol to compete with but I would rather compete with my XD. All the guys (and gals) in the league reload and do not know of any comercially available soft point 9mm rounds. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Interesting that they only allow non-jacketed ammo, usually it's the other way around.

Have fun looking...I haven't seen any yet.

I think it has something to do with the back stop not being able to stop FMJ and JHP "make a mess" is what I was told. They also collect the lead, recycle and cast their own bullets.

I see that you have a P22. I am actually thinking of getting one to use in the league. I know they are not tack drivers but do you think I can use it in competition? I know a ruger would be much more accurate but the whole point in my opinion is to get good at shooting pistols when it counts, self defense and I do not see how shooting a target pistol will do that. I guess my question is: Will I be able to get any kind of decent groups at 50 feet with a p22. I do not expect to win but do not want to look like an idiot either.

How do you like the P22? Would you recomend it?

The P22 is a great pistol. I rarely shoot it at 50 feet, however...it should be plenty accurate. TBH, I don't really go for tight groupings when I shoot it, I just have some fun with it, usually in the 25-30 foot range. The short sight radius doesn't help much, but the single action trigger is very nice after it's been broken in. Pretty short reset, as well.

Right now I'd say the P22 outshoots me, there is definitely room for improvement. I think people have gotten decent groups at 25 yards.

Send a message via AIM to paintballwannab
Ask someone at the range about buying or trading(commercial) ammo for their lead reloads.

Theres a few company's online that primarily sell reloads, see if you can find one that offers lead

I have used some of there hard lead non jacketed ammo. no malfunctions at all. I used all 500 rounds in one weekend of just target shooting with friends.
Here is the other guy . I found him recently at a gun show. He may have it available as well.

Are you sure that they're not a "cowboy" club? The only time that I've heard of this, is with cowboy shooting. They allow only revolvers because they are shooting extremely light loads that would not cycle an auto. They shoot steel plates and want to insure that there are no injuries due to ricochet.

If you don't want to get into hand-loading, that's fine, but space should never be a question. I know a fellow that has loaded tens-of-thousands of bullets on a corner mounted bench/shelf that takes up less room than a desktop computer. He has shelves above and below the press (his second press) that are loaded with bullets and empty cases. He replaced his old press last year with a progressive. He has his own range on his own property, so it's not that he doesn't have space, he started loading his own bullets as a teenager, living with his parents. He got use to this cramped (in my perspective) space and has used it ever since.

Thanks, Custom cartridge looks like they have what I want. I still may get that P22 though, looks like I could save a lot of money in the long run getting more practice shooting the cheap ammo.

What do they charge for shipping, I couldnt find it on the web-site? Do they ship it fast?

No its just a rod and gun club. I think they are worried about the backstop getting shot to **** with the jacketed ammo. Secondly, is is a small indoor range in the basement of the clubhouse, I think they are worried about ricochet. Finally, they collect the fired lead and use it to cast their own bullets. I think they dont want any copper/other metals mixed in.

If you get a P22 make sure you run some good high velocity ammo like mini mags through it at first...at least 1000 rounds. After that it opens up a bit and you can use the cheaper stuff.
