I carry the WWB JHPs. I shot a box to see how they fed and did online research and couldn't find anything wrong with them. They were comparable to the big name loads, and cheaper which at the time is what I needed. If I get the chance may switch but right now it works fine.

The problem you get with the cheaper JHPs is core/jacket seperation and performance. If your going to buy CCW or HD ammo spend a few bucks and get the best ammo made. IMO the JHP's at Wal-Mart are for target and hunting. Not for protecting yourself or loved ones unless that's all you have. Then I would consider FMJ's as a better alternate to WWB JHP's. Spend your gift card on target/practice ammo and for about the same price get you some CCW / HD ammo at ammunitiontogo.com

I would recommend the same, buy a bunch of practice ammo with that gift cert. Winchester/Remington is increasing its prices soon, so stock up. Later on buy some higher quality JHP. I bought 500 rounds of 9mm speer gold dots, splitting up with 2 friends from cabellas. They sent 2 of those nice dry boxes as well with the order, was $213 shipped.

IMO you shouldnt worry a whole lot about self defense ammo price, you only shoot a little of it to see if it feeds in the gun, then you just keep it. Worry more about target practice ammo price. You can even buy 50 round box of JHP, shoot two magazines off to see if it feeds and just keep the rest.

My 45ACP defense ammo is Core-Bon 185gr hollow points. They feed fine in my tactical. I've loaded some Hornady 185gr XTP's, and they feed fine with a COL of 1.21"

I tried those once worked pretty good. On about my third box I had excess smoke possibly a bad batch. I also had one failure to feed on that box. First time in 4500 rounds.

+1
Since the range ammo (along with all the other ammo) is going up in price you'd be better served by stocking up on the cheaper stuff, besides you're probably not going to be shooting hundreds of rounds of carry ammo anyway.

I have stopped buying bullets from WalMart due to their caving in to Bloomberg's demands. That being said, I live in a large town and I have Academy to fall back on.
