What type of self defense ammo does everyone use?
I've been doing research on the net for a long time now for self defense ammo. I've come up with random statistics and the popular top 5 (dont feel the need to list them as im sure the first page of responses will cover it) self defense ammo. However, with that being said, 95% of range personnel and gun shop owners/workers consistantly recommend Federal Hydra Shok to me. I wonder if theres anything to this? That being said I've pretty much come to the conclusion as to what im going to be buying to practice with this weekend in anticipation of my LTCF coming in next week. Just wanted to see what you folks on here had to say. I wonder if theres any bias from business owners to push Federal Hydra Shok, but even if that were true, which i doubt, how would that explain range personnel? Most of whom are generally ex leo and ex military. Thanks all.

Gold Dots, Hydra-shocks, or Winchester Ranger-T. I have also used Cor-bon's in the past. So long as it's a high-quality JHP and it works in a particular firearm, I'm not too picky.

This recent thread might help.
What kind of ammo is in your carry gun right now? I use Speer Gold Dots for SD in all my pistols.. Speer Ammo - Personal Protection I use the SB (short barrel) in my XD9sc, S&W 642, and Ruger LCP. Speer Ammo - Short Barrel

The best loadings are usually what the major manufacturers market to law enforcement.
Hydrashok was a badass back in the day, before anyone knew better. It's not considered a top loading anymore, except maybe in .45 ACP.

the local LEO's and a guy from the FBI that was a side instructor at my CCW class said alot the FBI and lots of LEO's are starting to use Speer Gold Dots, and thats what he recommended us to use.
i have no facts to back up what he said. seems to me the gold dots are a good choice anyway as for the Corbon DPX.. they look promising to me. But i wanna see someones homebrew testing in water jugs or wetpack.
