I use the Gaurdian Gold 124gr JHP in my 24/7 and First Defense SCHP in the shorter XDsc. The SCHP is a lighter round and will come out faster than a heavier bullet for the 3" barrel which helps it expand more.
Have not had any issues at all with either of them.

Basically you guys carry whatever is the most expensive because if it cost mucho dollars, it must be good.

I have blazer brass in all my guns. I am sure they will do the job just fine.

That's a really dumb thing to say. Many of us carry the ammunition we do because we have thoroughly researched the ballistics and shooting characteristics of the round and have standards that our carry ammo must meet.

The object is to immediately incapacitate someone who is trying to take our lives. Firing a full metal jacket round through someone may incapacitate them... after they finish killing me. That just doesn't work for me.

If you want to use target ammo for self defense feel free to do so. But don't denigrate the efforts of other people who spend a lot of time, energy, intelligence, and money to determine the best way to defend themselves and their families.

I know we all fantasize about shoot-outs where we get hit and yet continue to fight, but fact is shootouts are rare. For the most part, once someone gets hit they go down or they run away to go down later.
I myself think it is better to train yourself to shoot straight in stressful situations, or maybe even learn how to point a weapon straight all while beging coherent while half asleep in boxers. I don't know, maybe I am over simplifying this. One thing for sure is Speer marketing is working good and the company itself loves this thread.

It's proven that hollow point ammo does more damage then FMJ ammo....

Would you rather get hit with a flat dime or a flat quarter? Certainly the dime, it has less surface area and will do less damage. Which is why i carry .45 hollow point ammo.

I don't carry the most expensive, i carry what i feel will do the most damage to stop a threat against me.

Assuming someone will stop once they get hit with a FMJ or two is plain silly. Drugs do amazing things to someone and id rather have twice the width on a projectile to possibly take out something vital to not allow them to attack me.

Hey, I was just kidding.

Honestly, people go on and on and on and on about what load is the best, whatever whatever.

Find out what the large city police departments use, and use what they use. They have large budgets to test out ammo, and usually pick a load that is very good and (relatively) easy to find.

That being said, you can't go wrong with a heavy bullet in Speer Gold Dot. Corbon DPX is good, but is more expensive than Gold Dot and can be illegal in some states (like Tennessee).
