Hydra-shoks aren't too bad...they're cheap, that's for sure. Although you can get the HST or bonded for about the same price. I probably won't use Corbon DPX or other top dollar loads as they just cost to much. Maybe when I have more money...

Winchester Ranger SXT or T Series (or whatever they call them now). You get 50 of them for the price you get 20 Gold Dots. Really, any brand name hollow point will do fine. I put more into becoming a better shooter than what ammo I carry.

There is a reason that there are have been no new designs from Federal that have the post in the center of the bullet. The post in the Hydrashok cavity works well against bare gelatin, but hinders expansion when fired through thicker clothing like denim.

Gold Dots are not much more expensive, and I never felt underpowered when I carried Winchester USA JHP's in 147.

Scroll down to "Pistol Bullet Summary". There is a photo of some testing done on bare gel, and with denim as a barrier. There is also a lot of other rounds tested on that web page, also. The page is kept very current.

Is there any reason not to mix and match? Maybe alternate the Winchester Ranger SXT, Speer Gold Dots, and the Federal HST? I am new to guns so so sorry if this is stupid question/idea.
