Winchester Ranger?

in 9mm JHP. the Winchester Ranger "law enforcement ammo" is the only 9mm hollow point my gun shop carries. he said its the best and the only one he recommends because of the added talons. is this stuff worth it or is there much better out there? i've got 250 rounds of winchester white box 9mm right now, im going to load them through the gun next week. then im going to buy 200 rounds of some type of hollow point, so i know it works well and is safe to carry in my gun. any thoughts on the winchester ranger/talon/sxt series? thanks much

You may want to read through this thread:
What kind of ammo is in your carry gun right now?

There is a great picture of a fully expanded Ranger T round. In .45 they are the size of a quarter, in 9 about the size of a nickel. I have them for both 9 and 45 carry rounds.

heads up!

Some dealers knowingly [possibly unknowingly] will sell you the standard JHP that aren't "T-Series"

Ranger T-Series is highly modified Black Talon ammo.

As hotpig suggested, please post your part number located on the front of the box.

The part numbers you're looking for are:
RA9= 147gr
RA9TA= 127gr +P+

jcabin, I have the Ranger's for my .40 for basically the same reason you are thinking of getting them. That is what everybody carries & is less expensive. However, I was not that impressed with them. I could not group them nearly as well as I could Blazer Brass fmj's. I am thinking of switching to the Golden Sabres. For the money, I think they are fine.
I am curious of why you are wanting to go thru 200 rounds of them when fmj's are less expensive (really, not being rude just wondering)

The poster may want to do the standard 200 round function test before using the Ranger as his carry load.

When i carried a 9mm i carried the 9mm SXT rangers....When i carried a .40 i carried the .40cal SXT Rangers.....I now carry a .45 and carry .45cal SXT Rangers.

I love this ammo, it shoots, feeds, groups, and expands very well for me. As mentioned above, the size of a fully expanded .45 ranger is HUGE.

If you're looking for Ranger ammo, drop Jerry an email. He sells Ranger ammo on different forums. I've bought many boxes from Jerry.

Noo, im just shooting regular winchester white box 9mm fmj because its the cheapest ammo produced by a reputable ammo manufacturer i could find, and i see large numbers of ppl on this forum and another i common that speak highly of WWB 9mm FMJ's performance and economic value.

I'm saying, once i put 250-300 rounds of regular FMJ ammo through my gun(break in, this is a new gun, and my first gun ever at that), I want to try and put 200 rounds of JHP through my gun. I heard you shouldn't trust any JHP ammo to feed properly through your gun (for carrying/self defense) until you've fired atleast 200 rounds. I was asking for info on the Ranger series, because thats what my dealer said is the best and its the only 9mm JHP he carries for that reason. I think it was Ranger Talon +P or +P+, not sure, ill have to go back and look. i dont know if it was talon sxt or regular talon.
