Ammunition Cases/Housing questions.
Now that i'll finally have a hand gun in 2 weeks, xd9 service, i've been stocking up on ammo. I've already got 250 rounds sitting in their original boxing tucked away in the dresser. I plan on purchasing another 500 or so in the next 2 weeks. Now, i think it might be easier if i had some kind of casing system to transfer them around with me when going from home to range. Keep in mind this is 9mm FMJ. Any thoughts on this, or should i not waste my money and just stick the boxes in a carry bag and be on my way? |

You could pick up a surplus ammo can if there is a gun show anywhere near you. That would be kinda cool.

What about a cheap plastic tool box from Meijer or something? I have one that even seals so that it is water proof.

It depends on how much you plan on shooting at one time. If your trips to the range are going to be 100 rounds or less, stick with the factory boxes. If you'll be shooting several hundred per trip, a different container may be in order. Personally, I use a mil-surplus ammo can. I believe it's a .30 caliber can. You can fit over 1000 rounds of 9mm in it. It does get a bit heavy when full, though. I personally wouldn't want to lug around one of the bigger cans if it were full.....

I carry one range bag when I go for all my ammo & gear. My guns go in a separate locked case. I don't see any reason to dum the already boxed ammo into a can?
