With your short barrel go for a quality 124g +P round. After doing some research online and test firing I chose the Speer Gold Dots.

Personal/Home Defense 9mm : FEDERAL PREMIUM HYDRA-SHOK 135grn JHP
Target Practice 9mm : WINCHESTER 115grn FMJ More due to local availability, since I don't order ammo on-line. - I'm also not a fan of +P's I've stumbled into alot of "issues/discussions" lately about the effectiveness of JHP with a sub-compact barrel length/grain/+P/impact damage.....etc. And am quite comfortable with my choice in P/HD ammo So.......practice.. practice... practice......carry an extra mag.......cause comes to stopping a threat....it's really determined by overall accuracy and amt of eventual blood loss.

I have Federal 147gr HST's in my 9sc. Great ballistics and affordable. Newer design from the Hydra-Shoks and cheaper.
