Lswc ?
I'm reloading some 200 grn LSWCs to replenish my dwindling .45 ammo supply. I am going by what my Speer #14 Manual is telling me. It tells me 200 grn LSWC should be loaded to 1.190 inches COAL. However this leaves the edge of the wadcutter body slightly below the case rim.
I'm farily new to reloading LSWCs and all of the other ones I've seen have a little bit of the body sticking out of the case mouth. Will the way the Speer manual is telling me to reload cause me any problems? Is it dangerous to load the case this way? Thanks for any help.

The most commonly preferred OAL for a .45 SWC is about 1.125", give or take a bit. Personally, I want the crimp to be on the bullet, not part of it ahead of the lead.

Did you mean to put a .225? because 1.125 would be so far in the case I would worry about excessive case pressure from lack of case volume.

According to the Accurate Arms listing the COAL for the 45 ACP is 1.150" (min) to 1.275" (max).
Also using this listing the 200gn LSWC should be loaded with a COAL of 1.190" Brian |

I checked six factory reload LSWCs I had in my ammo can loaded in a moon clip for my revolver and averaged out the COAL of the six of them and it came out to 1.240 so I set them to 1.235 and loaded up the rest of them. I guess if they don't feed well I may need to adjust that.

1.235 to 1.240 is what I load my 200GR SWC at to get them to feed. Any shorter and you get extraction problems and the next round nose dives into the mag. Any longer and you get failure to feed. 1.235 seems to work best for my XD45 TAC. Shot 150 rounds of it yesterday without a problem.

Ouch! Proofreading counts, especially with reloading data. Sorry. It should be 1.250, and I'm at 1.280 for my rig.

THe data from Speer is only valid /w their LSWC. There are several diff. designs of 200grLSWC, longer noses, shorter noses, etc. The important part is the bearing surface & hoow much is inside the case. Loading long seldom causes you any problems other than feeding. I can't get LSWC to feed 100% in my Tac, so I stopped using them, but are from a Magma mold & I load them to 1.240".
