Economic Reason to Reload

So of course, everyone is griping about the cost of ammo. And the time to get into reloading has never been better. For those who don't reload yet and are thinking about it, Can all of us that do reload post both the local factory ammo price/round and their reloaded price/round?

FACTORY
.40S&W Winchester White Box at Wally World => $0.289 per round after tax

MY RELOADS
.40S&W $0.14641 after tax and shipping costs.

So right now, I'm saving ~$14.25/box of 100

This saving is comparing a box of WWB to the actually money that I have spent so far on lead, brass, primers, and powder. I went nuts that past few days and made my self a pretty extensive Excel spreadsheet that keeps track of all of this for me. So I just purchased a Dillon 550b and it will pay itself off in 7000 rounds.

If that isn't a good reason to get into reloading, I don't know what is.

Anyone else care to join in with your info?

This last fall a box of good .270 hunting rounds ran me about $25. I made some nosler partitions ($42 a box) for just under 6.

I'll probably have to dig up the receipts to confirm it, but I know when I worked out the cost per round for me to reload 9mm (not including time) it was about $80 per 1000 rounds.

I paid a little for some (4,500+) once fired brass, but a lot were pickups from the range; bought 3,500 bullets at once at a real discount; generally try to buy a couple pounds of powder at a time; and purchase primers by the thousand.

I haven't bought a box of 9mm in so long I don't even know what it's going for, but I looked up on a few websites and came up with this.

Wolf for approximately $150/k and commercially reloaded ammunition for $160/k with commercially manufactured ammunition around 180+/k.

So I generally reload 9mm at approximately 56% of the cost of wolf, 53% of the cost of commercially reloaded ammunition, 47-35% the cost of commercially manufactured.

I save $3.50 per box of 50 reloading compared to the cheapest wolf and $5 per box of 50 compared to the cheapest commercially manufactured.

For anyone that wants to calculate it.

Oh, I'm sure. And I will eventually, I just need to wait for my reserves to build back up a little and I need to finish my build.

I'l play...

.45acp

WWB at walmart $31.67 per 100(tax, out the door,so for 1k bullets it's $316.70)

Toms' Reloads $125 per 1k (i have never bought brass, always used what i find and/or given to me or traded).

I got a Lee turret with dies at a gun show for $10, so my equipment has already paid for itself multiple times. So it's obvious that reloading is cheaper...

I'll play too but you may not like it. This is for pistols only-I cast my own bullets and get free lead. Only cost is powder and primers as all brass is scrounged. Cost per 100 ranges from $3.00 to $3.50 depending on powder and charge weight. this is for 45's, 38's, 40's, makes little differnce with free bullets.

Where/how do you get the free lead?
