Used several different, and did not notice much difference if at all.
Use what works for you and your wallet.

I really like CCI Blazer Brass, but I'll shoot anything out of my XD.

I really like Wolf 9mm too but that's mostly because it's cheaper than all the rest commercial ammo, and I can pick up my casings with a magnet.

The XDs are very forgiving when it comes to ammo. For range shooting I prefer Blazer Brass and Winchester White Box, for Defense I use PowRBall in my 45s and Federal EFMJ in 9mm. However HydrShocks, Gold Dot, and others probably work just as well. The only thing XDs don't appear to like are Lead SWC, some people can load them buy generally most do not. I know what you mean about the Beretta being particular about certain brands but the XDs are not that way.

I have a 9mm service and a 40 SC. For practice shooting I use Winchester white box. You can buy 100 rounds for +/- $20.00 For carry and defense I have them both loaded with Federal Personal Defense Hydra Shock loads. They are $20.00 for a box of 20.

I hope this helps.
