Precison Bullets w/ Lee Classic

After reading the Precision Bullets FAQ:

Quote:
RELOADING TIPS
Make sure to have a good bell on the case so not to shave off the coating during the seating process.
Do not seat and crimp the bullets in the same die. Use a separate taper crimp die.
We highly recommend Dillon reloading equipment.
Do not use a roll crimp or Lee Factory Taper Crimp Dies.
The roll crimp will cut through the coating. You must use a taper crimp die.
The Lee Factory Taper Crimp Die will undersize the bullets causing accuracy and fouling problems.
Most of the time a heavier crimp will work better.
Seeing as how I am just starting to investigate the reloading process I have to ask: does this mean the Kempf kit would be out of the question or would it mean I just need to use another die in the Classic press? If it's just a matter of dies, which crimp die would I substitute for the one which comes in the Lee kit? The price of $200/3k+ is damned attractive, but I really don't want to get into the Dillon price point just yet.

That being said, if a simple die change it out of the question then would the Zero 135's from Powder Valley at $193/3k be a good substitute while still using the Kempf kit?

Am I missing any other obvious option?

I also have a lee turret press and am considering precision bullets...

from what i have read, lee stopped using that particular crimp die (the one precision mentions) sometime in the late 90's.....you may want to call lee and find out for sure what die you have and what your options for other dies are.

i myself have a 3 hole turret, 1 to unprime, to to stretch and powder, one to seat the bullet...then another turret plate with a crimp die.

The problem of over crimping is also an issue w/ plated bullets. Your best bet is a taper crimp die. Lee should offer that as std. in their seating die (I don't use Lee dies) if not, they should be able to supply a taper crimp/seating die for cheap. It's always best to seat & crimp in separate steps to prevent unnecessary bullet deformation, regardless of dies.

I have both the older Lee FCD and the new one. the new one will work as you can adjust it with more accuracy.
